1998, a couple of years after the disbandonment of The Fingal League and Cilles second string are participating in Div8 of the newly structured Dublin League’s and in The Sheridan Cup ,a competition made up of a combination of teams from Div 7 & Div 8.
Cilles that year were fortunate in that five or six young players came on board and subsequently won further honor’s as first team players, not least been crowned League Champions (DIV 5) the following year and getting promoted to the intermediate leagues. But back to the year 1998 which saw Cilles win all of their fixtures both home and away and thus been crowned winners of the “CUP COMP” and becoming the first adult team , from the club, to win a competition under the auspices of The Dublin County Board.
On receiving our medals from the Co. Board, a presentation night was organized in the old Harp Inn, North Street ,Swords.Mr Sean Ryan, Labour T.D. for the area was asked to present to the victorious Colmcilles team, and if we can take this opportunity to again say a big a Thank You to Sean Ryan for the many times that he has helped us down throughout the years.
I am sure our then President, Mr. Michael Joyce (Sen R.I.P)must have been very proud to present his grandson Richard Foran with his winners medal and I’m sure also that his team mates wish Richie all the best after his accident in later years brought his playing career to a premature end.
Buoyed by these recent successes it was decided to begin fundraising in order to build a clubhouse to secure the long term future of the club. Through the goodness of Mr Gannonn of “Gannon Homes”, a piece of land was donated to the club by Motorola.
Plans were drawn up and a builder was appointed and over the next couple of years ,funds were raised ,grants were sought, obtained and spent . the committee working diligently to construct a building worthy of its members. This was achieved and with the great work from the club committee through the years all plans are ahead of target.
The club would like to send out a big thank you to all those who were intrsutemental in achieving this ,not least Mr. Gavin Reynolds , Mr. Joe Donnelly and many many more and to those who have supported the club over the years, and may we take this opportunity to wish everyone “All the best” and look forward to your continues support.
